Is the Cambodian film industry ready for a take-off?

Recently Nora Lindstrom wrote an article in the Asia Life Guide magazine about the actual situation of the Cambodian cinema.
She tried to figure out why the golden era of the Cambodian film industry seem to be over and how it could happen that memories like those of the famous Cambodian actress Dy Saveth are incredible today:
"In the past people used to crowd to Phnom Penh from the provinces to go to the cinema. The industry had a lot of support from the audience. There was only one TV channel, no karaoke, no cable TV, so there was a lot of interest in making and watching films.”

Please read here the full article and find out how filmmakers nowadays reflect this situation and what efforts are done to strenghen the Cambodian film industry:

It shows Lizza visiting the company “Neo Tekstil” in Istanbul, were the t-shirts have been produced.

Now you too, can become part of the "Delphi-shirt-family!” From the 17th of November on they are ready to be to be worn by you! Get your t-shirt on our website.

Opening of Golden Reawakening Part 2: Exhibition of photos and drawings of the movie theatres in Phnom Penh

For everybody who is in Cambodia- Do not miss this: Tonight is the opening of an exhibition of photos and drawings of the movie theatres in Phnom Penh in the 70s.

Place: At Sasa Gallery (7 Street 360), November 6th-18th 2009

In 1975, there were at least 30 movie theatres in Phnom Penh. Today, just one of them still shows films: Lux Theatre. The photographer group “Stiev Selapak” (Rebel Arts) has photographed the places where those movie theatres were located at that time.
Because many photos of the 70’s movie theatres are not available, the Kon Khmer Kon Khmer worked with a group of artists to create drawings of several movie theatres based on the meticulous description of one remarkable witness of that era, Mr. Chour Sokhen.

Here you can check all upcoming events of Kon Khmer Kon Khmer: http://konkhmerkounkhmer.blogspot.com/

Constitution Day in Cambodia

We also want to give you some short historical information about the country where we shot the movie: Today is Constitution Day. It is celebrated as a national holiday in Cambodia on September 24th each year. It marks the signing of a new constitution on that same day in 1993 by King Norodom Sihanouk, two years after the signing of the Paris Peace accords, during which all parties agreed to free and fair elections.

Under the Constitution, the King has no political power, but his role carriers great cultural importance for Cambodians, whose reverence for the King dates back to the crowning of the first devaraja. The King has to be at least 30 years old, a member of the royal family, and has to be descended from the blood line of King Ang Duong (1840-1859), King Norodom (1859-1904) or King Sisowath (1904-27). The motto of the country is “Nation, Religion, King”. Buddhism is declared as the official religion but freedom of religion and worship is assured. It also establishes that Cambodia shall be governed on the principles of a liberal democracy and pluralism.

David Kross hits the books again!

David heads for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art to study play for three years.
He made his first theatre experiences six years ago and in an interview he said that he would love to work at a theatre but not without a proper education. Because acting is very important to him, he left school after 10th grade to be available for movie shoots. Besides gaining experiences in acting, he looks forward to be independent and to speak the English language without any accent.

We wish David a great time in London and hope that he is going to be very happy there. Hopefully we will see him again on the big screen soon and maybe also on stage.

Here you can find the whole interview:
