This week our costume designer, Bisrat Negassi, describes her feelings during her stay in Cambodia. Read and enjoy!
Tells us about your experiences shooting in Cambodia!
My stay in Cambodia was too short and unfortunately not that much time for discovery of people and country. As i stayed most of the time in the office to prepare costumes.
The first impression and feeling I had was, that there were so many
similarities to my country ERITREA. The mentality, politness among young and older people, etc. which i barely see in Germany... I will try to answer the questions
as a german-eritrean/ eritrean-german.
Cambodia and Germany
What is SAME SAME?
For example sitting in a bar (hotelbar) and drinking a glas of red-wine,
could be anywhere...hamburg, paris etc.
What is DIFFERENT?
...sitting in a tuc-tuc with thida and driving from the olympic-market to the russian-market.
Shooting in Cambodia is comparable to...
honestly...there is nothing to compare with.
It was definetly a great experience for me!! and I would love to go for it again n again;)!
What was the most bizarre thing that happened to you?
hmm....grilled spider as an appetizer...unforgettable.
a "krüsch-finicky" person has spoken, i assume.
What influence did the time in Cambodia have on you?
some, but too long to explain.
Recommendations for Cambodia?
This must be mentioned about Cambodia:
Due to lack of time not that much to mention than my 1.office: hotel cambodiana.
with a delicious french bakery and the hotelbar with a great wine-selection.
These are the places one must visit:
AND my 2. office: all the different markets.orusay-, olympic-, russian,-...
These are the things one must eat or drink:
The french bakery at the hotel cambodiana or a beer in a beergarden and
grilled spider as an appetizer.
These are the things one must do:
get a tuc-tuc and check all the markets.
