Article

What is SAME SAME?
The police are pigs

What is DIFFERENT?
Here you can pay them.

Shooting in Cambodia is comparable to…
A giant undertaking the positive outcome of which you don’t even dare to dream about. But in the end all the seemingly impassable obstacles always become smooth as silk and make way with a smile.

What was the most bizarre thing that happened to you?
Ended up on the wrong side of the fence walking straight through a mine field leading my crew. After some time I suddenly realised and froze. What to do? Continue? Go back? The next step can be the last one! Ain’t no holidays in Cambodia.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and SAME SAME in Phnom Penh

Bonjour Cambodge

One night screening of the roughcut of Same Same But Different in the hotelroom of the producer Claus Boje. Loveline was all ears. Attending a bunch of people connected to the production, Expats and Khmer.

Tears and laughter. The other night, the night before the oscar-night, screening of Slumdog Millionaire (a copy from the Russian Market). Enthusiastic reactions. And what shall I tell you, it was same same but different.

Nothing.

Weather and mentality

a totally different life experience for two months. Thanks to Boje Buck that I could join!
What influence did the time in Cambodia have on you?
Now I start to think in another way about life: Which meaning has my job to me? I want to GIVE, next to my job or even instead of doing totally different things, which have a different value than being on the stage or acting in front of the camera such as the school project, which I would like to realize but due to my injury it has to be postponed until December 2009.

Impression of Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat – a symbol for the Cambodian nation

A foreign country, a foreign culture, in which we were at home for some time.
We worked with the people, made acquaintances and friendships.

A Cambodian proverb says:

Ngöy skàk aon dak kroap
(Upstanding blades are empty, blades canting over carry corn.)

Cambodian Winter

Threats and Relativity

A fresh wind blows, the flags flutter at the top of their poles at the Riverside. Over night the temperatures have dropped to an all time low. At least it seems like that. Early in the morning one can see a shady haze on the river confluence in front of the Royal Palace.

People wear big woolen shawls and flurry hats. Some Motodop drivers wear gloves, others put on big fluffy socks with their flip flops. Winter has arrived and everybody acts as if an arctic storm has taken hold of the city. "Uhhhhhhiii, me so colda!" The tuktuk drivers ask for extra money for longer distances, not because it is far, but because it is too cold...
